Explore Partnership

THE PROJECT
Client : We Explore
Sector : Offshore racing, expedition
Project Dates : 2021 – ongoing
Project Location : Concarneau
Order:
Roland Jourdain (Bilou), skipper of the catamaran We Explore (an Outremer 5X in linen) on which he raced the last Route du Rhum, commissioned Ino-Rope to supply ropes for his boat with specifications that completely break away from the usual offshore racing requirements. We Explore, enjoying a new life after the Route du Rhum will follow an expedition program dedicated to environmental action. She could not be equipped with “disposable lines.” The notion of durability, whether in terms of reuse or reparability, is indeed fundamental for our client.
How Ino-Rope responds:
Ino-Rope started with the boat’s plans and suggested a complete running rigging solution in partnership with the Lancelin rope factory, which was directly involved in the project.
Challenges:
It was necessary to find a balance between lightness (to not fall below a certain performance threshold) and durability, two antagonistic criteria. It was also necessary to get the acceptance of a sampling perceived as too light by confronting our scientific calculations with the deeply rooted habits of the field.
Ino-Rope’s strengths in responding:
Thanks to its expertise, our team was able to work solely from 2D plans. Additionally, they ensured project monitoring throughout the construction at La Grande Motte, which requires adaptability and rigor to accommodate inevitable technical and timing changes.
Perspectives
Participating in Bilou’s project, which carries a different vision of offshore racing, is very motivating. It feeds our overall reflection on the reuse of products, their second life, and the aging of ropes.
